Oral presentation

Proposal of negative triangularity for ST program

Kikuchi, Mitsuru

no journal, ,

The negative triangular plasma is proposed as one of methods for the heat load solution in the magnetic confinement fusion. The ST is easier to implement negative triangular plasma and we discuss such a possibility.

Transport reduction mechanism in negative triangularity tokamak

Kikuchi, Mitsuru; Takizuka, Tomonori*; Furukawa, Masaru*

no journal, ,

While negative triangular tokamak configuration has possibility to improve power handling capability, mechanism of improved confinement observed in TCV is still not fully understood. In this talk, we will summarize present understanding of linear eigenmode structure of toroidal drift waves and also flow shear suppression of turbulence.

MHD stability of single null negative triangularity tokamak and the flux tube expansion divertor

Kikuchi, Mitsuru; Medvedev, S.*; Takizuka, Tomonori*; Nagasaki, Kazunobu*; Cheng, D.*

no journal, ,

We are proposing negative triangularity tokamak (NTT) for drastic improvement of power handling capability of tokamak fusion reactor. This configuration is magnetic hill but we found it is stable up to a normalized beta 3.2 with appropriate profile control to increase magnetic shear near periphery. MHD stability of single null divertor also shows a normalized beta $$>$$3 can be stable. This leads to a possible implementation of flux tube expansion (FTE) divertor proposed by Takizuka and may get 2.7 flux expansion.
